Mashed Sweet Potato with Kalua

I was served this dish along with a grilled salmon at a restaurant in Florida where my husband I vacationed. Kahlua added a very nice twist. I simply had to recreate this dish once I got home. When I went to buy a bottle of Kahlua, the store also had Cinnamon Spice Kahlua for sale.  I don’t know if this was a seasonal product, but I thought this would be even better for this dish. So I grabbed the bottle and began my experiment in the kitchen. You can serve this dish any day, but this would also be a great side dish for a Thanksgiving dinner!

2 sweet potatoes peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
3 Tbsp butter
1/2 cup milk or almond milk
3 Tbsp Kahlua (I used Cinnamon Spice Kahlua)
Some spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove if you are using regular Kahlua)

1. Steam sweet potatoes until soft.
2. Add butter and mash the potatoes.
3. Add milk gradually and mix until it reaches the consistency you want.  Then Add Kahlua and spices (if you are using regular Kahlua) and mix again.

    This looks like a great way to introduce more flavor and depth to sweet potatoes. I’m looking forward to trying it…guess I’ll need to buy some kahlua 🙂

  2. Thank you for the comment, Noni. I have to come up with more recipe to use up my Kahlua. Perhaps I will try Kahlua cheesecake or Kahlua tiramisu next.
